Your Business Vision
Being able to articulate your company’s vision simply is powerful.
It supports your decision-making, how you lead, and provides a guidepost for your company to work towards.
Sharing it with your team, your clients and suppliers can be equally as powerful so people know what you’re about. People are attracted to doing business with companies that have passion and purpose.
If you haven’t articulated or written your business’ vision in a while, I encourage you to use this simple framework which includes what success looks like.
Here’s a vision framework for you to work with:
-
What problem are you trying to solve?
-
What does your company do to solve this problem?
-
Thinking 3-5 years down the road, describe what the world will look like once you have solved this problem.
-
Who is most affected by this problem today?
-
What measurable business outcome will tell you when you solved this problem?
Go ahead and give it a shot…
While language and words are important I encourage you to not get lost in ‘wordsmithing’ to the detriment of not completing your draft. Get it down on paper so you can have a working copy. Then iterate as your business evolves.
Here are my (non-perfect, working copy) responses for my business:
What problem are you trying to solve?
Owners often start businesses for freedom and flexibility yet can struggle with growing their company, and can often find themselves caught in the service delivery trap where they’ve created another job for themselves. The most prevalent challenges owners have tend to come down to time, team, and cash flow.
What does your company do to solve this problem?
We support owners to grow sustainably and maximize their future options. We provide a method to company growth that allows owners to create an enjoyable company to run, achieve their growth and profit goals, and at the same time maximizing their company’s value so they have the freedom to decide what their future looks like.
Thinking 3-5 years down the road, describe what the world will look like once you have solved this problem:
Owners have a financial asset working for them; they enjoy their business; they have space and options for other projects and better alignment with their personal goals. These successful companies employ people and contribute economically and socially to our society; often through products and services that make a positive impact both directly and indirectly.
Who is most affected by this today:
Business owners, their families, and their employees.
What measurable business outcome will tell you when you have solved the problem?
When both business and owner are thriving, according to their own measures of success; and the business is able to operate as its own entity.
Go ahead and give this a try for your business. If you need support or have a question, reach out to me.
NOW is YOUR time.
