The Art of Hitting your Goals
We all have them….things we want to accomplish in our work and in our personal lives.
Whether you’ve got many goals or just one or two, the steps you’ll take to get to each goal may look different, but there’s ONE thing that is the same for every goal you work towards.
How you start.
It takes a commitment.
A commitment towards a future where that goal has been attained….We won’t move forward unless we commit to that decision.
And, after you commit and start working towards your goal….You’ll need the follow-up strategy of….
…..the Re-commitment :)
Because let’s face it. We all get distracted or we eat the food we don’t ‘want’ to be eating and we do things that don’t move us forward.
This is where the re-commitment comes in.
Being on the path towards something in the future takes daily mini-commitments and sometimes many times a day. It’s a pact between your current self and your future self.
When we go off course, what can happen is the onset of self-judgment and negative self-talk. Which doesn't make anyone feel good and doesn’t support our efforts. In fact, sometimes we can convince ourselves that “we aren’t capable of attaining that goal” or “we aren’t cut out in some way,” and then we stop. Have we attained our goal? - NO.
What if we skipped that part and simply - re-committed?
From this moment on, “I’m going to make a better choice.”
From this moment on, “I’m going to put my attention towards that thing that will help me move the needle towards my most important goal first.”
It can help to have a practice around stating your commitment each morning - it can help to ground us in our intention and set us up for the day. And, at the end of the day reflect on the times during the day where you chose the path towards your goal. Give yourself a pat on the back for the times when you actually did what you set out to do.
We are so quick to fly into self-judgment but rarely so quick to acknowledge ourselves for a job well done, a good decision, a moment of clarity, an effort that helped to move the needle.
I invite you to practice the art of the re-commitment.
NOW is YOUR time.
